Vain » is notable in the UK as it was the first number-one single not to be available as a 7″ vinyl single since the 1950s and heralded the demise of the 7″ single as a mass market medium. Vain » was directed by Matt Broadley. It premiered in the United Kingdom on August 1993.

Vain » at number 65 in their list of The 100 Biggest 90’s Dance Anthems of All Time in November 2011. One of the song’s original writers, Nosie Katzmann, recorded a new country version of the song. A lounge version was recorded by Axel Boys Quartet. Australian rapper Nathan Jolly released a cover version in 1998 on his second album, Who Dat? Pet Shop Boys covered the song during a live performance in Rio de Janeiro, as part of their 1994 Discovery Tour.

Vain is an American heavy metal band from San Francisco Bay Area, California, formed in 1986. Danny West, Ashley Mitchell and drummer Tom Rickard to the lineup. They signed with Island Records in 1988, before releasing their debut album the following year, titled No Respect, which peaked at number 154 on the Billboard 200.

Though they recorded a second album, Vain were released by Island in 1991, with West and Rickard departing the same year. Following the addition of both Shawn Rorie and former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, Vain renamed themselves Road Crew. However, they also disbanded in 1991.
